What is Awana and what does a typical night look like?
Awana is a Bible based program for children to learn about Jesus. The program will begin with children who will be entering Kindergarten (09-10 school year) through 6th Grade (09-10 school year). Meetings are 90 minutes long. Meetings feature segments for games or other fun activities, small-group Bible learning and large-group Bible teaching, worship, announcements and awards.
Game Time is comprised of exciting circle games exclusive to Awana that are a popular draw for churched and non-churched children alike.
Handbook Time provides small-group interaction and recitation of Scripture that kids learned during the week. It also features friendship building and opportunities for leaders to mentor children and help them understand the Bible verses they learn.
Large Group Time consists of praise and worship, Bible teaching, awards, announcements and a presentation of God’s plan of salvation.

What’s New?
The 5-count for group disciplineWhenever an adult wants everyone’s attention she will begin counting from 1-5, holding her hand in the air and counting with her fingers. Before the count is at 5, all children should be waiting quietly. This is called the 5-count.
The 3-count for individual disciplineWhereas the 5-count is used in a group setting, the 3-count is for an individual child who continues to misbehave after given opportunities to correct his or her behavior. 1 disruptive child cannot be allowed to distract the entire club.
*Count 1:
Give a child a specific warning that his behavior is inappropriate & her has been waned enough times.**Count 2: Ask your director to speak with the child
***Count 3: Have your director take the child aside & remove him from the activity for a time. The director should speak to the child’s parents when they arrive.
While your children are here with us we will be using a 5 count to keep group attentiveness…
All clubs and activities have rules. If children want the privilege of participating, they must abide by behavior standards.
Announcements will be at 8 pm each night, please join us to hear what is going on.

Awana (an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, from 2 Timothy 2:15), is an international evangelical nonprofit organization founded in 1950, headquartered in Streamwood, Illinois. The organization supplies local churches with weekly clubs, programs and Bible training for students in preschool through high school. The goal of Awana is that these students would come to know, love and serve Jesus Christ as Lord.
History
Awana was founded as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, Illinois, by Pastor Lance Latham and Art Rorheim. Their goal was to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel and train them in the Lord’s work. Other churches heard about the success of the Awana program and asked if they could use it. By 1960, Awana had grown to 900 churches. Today, more than 12,000 U.S. churches have Awana programs and can be found in all 50 states. Outside the United States, Awana can also be found in more than 5,100 churches in 109 countries and six continents.
